The Charter Oak Award is awarded annually to one work of poetry or prose with a historical bent that has been submitted to and published by Alternating Current. Every piece of writing of a historical subject matter that is submitted to our press is considered for the award.
All winning pieces are published in our annual literary journal of history, Footnote, and online at our website. The grand-prize winner also receives complimentary copies of the journal with his winning piece indicated with our medallion imprint, the use of the medallion imprint on his own websites and book collections, a $100 honorarium, a certificate, and a laser-engraved standing desk award. All winning pieces are judged blindly and chosen by a select external panel of editors, publishers, writing instructors, literary organization members, and/or published authors invited by our press to participate. This year’s winners will be featured in Footnote #1. Two Honorable Mention winners are also awarded publication and a certificate.
Honorable Mentions to be announced on November 15th. Please check back then for results.
